NI-15-03-2008
Measuring Instruments Directive MID regulates the requirements and the procedure for measuring instruments up to putting them into operation. Test rigs are tools for testing the accuracy of the measurement devices and thus not directly covered by the MID.
Test rigs serve for calibration and verification and were so far almost exclusively used in the nationally recognized inspection stations and the Local Weights and Measures Office. With the conversion to national law in 2007 the structures of both kinds of offices will change. There are a wide range of temporary regulations valid, but only for already existing measuring devices.
With conversion of the MID step by step for measurement devices, not only new demands were made against existing testing methods. The use within an assessment procedure or certification by a European Notified Body makes changed demands against the test technology. Whether the existing rigs will meet the requirements, has to be still clarified.
